Waste picker families and their kids have ever experienced traditional games, art and circus performance On Sunday, January 8th 2012, there were a great event in the big hall of COMPED’s Social and Waste Management Centre, which located next to Battambang city’s dumpsite. The event organized by COMPED organization under support of family Gutjahr and godparents Gerd Meisgeier and Edda Piatsch.
This was organized for waste pickers at Battambang dumpsite and their children integrated with the children from the villages around the dumpsite. There were about 200 kids and families came to join the event. Candy and small toys, which were brought from Germany, were awarded after each game as a prize. The children enjoyed playing, laughing and dancing very much. Not only the children had lots of fun but also the delegation, COMPED staffs and other viewers together were in good spirits. Art mixed with circus performance was specially managed to show about the daily life of waste pickers performed by Phare Ponleu Selpak Organization located in Battambang city. The circus show very spectacular making everyone a great time to view, for the first time in their life, the performance with deep meaning of waste picker life in society. Moreover, six children received even a bicycle for each. They were very happy and proud of it presented from their God-parents in Germany. They still got school uniforms and school bags. Some children still danced a bit and played on the playground and then try riding their new bicycles. |
